Many people question what “luxury travel” really means. Some assume it’s all about private jets, five-star hotels, and extravagant price tags. And while those things can certainly be part of it, luxury travel is so much more than that. So, what exactly is luxury travel? Let me walk you through it.
For many travelers, luxury isn’t just about extravagance or wealth. It’s about personalization, exceptional service, and creating unforgettable experiences that feel special and uniquely theirs.
What Luxury Travel Isn’t
Let’s start with what luxury travel isn’t, because I think this helps set the stage.
It’s not your typical one-week package at an all-inclusive resort in Mexico. It’s not a weekend trip to Disney that you can find online with a quick search. Don’t get me wrong—there’s nothing bad about these types of vacations. They’re just not luxury travel.
The truth is, 90% of trips like this can easily be booked online. And as a travel agent, trying to sell these trips means competing with Expedia or Travelocity, where clients are just looking for the cheapest deal. It’s exhausting, it’s not profitable, and honestly, it’s not much fun.
That’s why I focus on the other 10%—the clients who are looking for something special, something they can’t find with a quick Google search.

What Luxury Travel Really Is
For me, luxury travel is all about creating something one-of-a-kind for my clients.
It’s personal. Every client has different tastes and dreams, and a luxury trip reflects that. Whether it’s a wine-tasting tour in Tuscany or a private safari in Africa, luxury travel is tailored to fit the client’s unique preferences.
It’s thoughtful. Luxury clients don’t want a cookie-cutter experience—they want the little touches that make their trip memorable. Maybe it’s a private guide who takes them to hidden spots, or a special dinner arranged on a secluded beach.
And it’s seamless. These clients expect their trip to be perfect from start to finish. They want someone to handle the logistics, solve any problems, and make it all look effortless. That’s where you come in as the advisor.
Who is It For?
Now, let’s talk about who books luxury travel, because it’s not always who you think.
Yes, many of my clients are affluent professionals—doctors, lawyers, business owners—who have the means to prioritize high-end experiences.
But luxury travel isn’t just for the wealthy. I’ve worked with plenty of clients who saved for years to celebrate a milestone—a 25th wedding anniversary, a honeymoon, or a long-overdue bucket-list trip. For them, luxury isn’t about money; it’s about making the most of a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
At the end of the day, luxury travel clients are people who value quality over cost. They’re not looking for the cheapest deal online. They’re looking for someone they trust to help them create an extraordinary journey.

What Does It Look Like?
One of the things I love most about this career is how creative it is. No two trips are ever the same, because every client has their own idea of what luxury means.
Here are just a few examples of the types of trips I’ve planned:
- Weekend Getaways: Even a short trip can feel luxurious. I’ve booked clients into incredible 5-star hotels with private spa appointments and curated city tours.
- Bucket-List Adventures: From private safaris in Africa to helicopter tours in Iceland, some trips are about chasing dreams.
- Multi-Destination Journeys: One of my favorite projects was planning a multi-month, around-the-world itinerary for a couple who wanted to explore several continents in style.
- Special Interest Travel: Culinary tours, wellness retreats, art-focused trips—you name it. If a client has a passion, I make it part of their journey.
- Private Villas and Cruises: High-end clients love the exclusivity of private villas or luxury cruise lines with tailored shore excursions.
Every trip I plan is a chance to create something meaningful for my clients.

Why Luxury Travel is Thriving
If you’re wondering why there’s such a demand for luxury travel right now, the answer is simple: people want experiences.
After years of being stuck at home during the pandemic, travelers are eager to explore the world again—and they’re willing to pay for something special. They want private spaces, personalized service, and the reassurance that their trip will be worth every penny.
At the same time, travel has become more overwhelming than ever. With so many options online, clients need someone they can trust to help them navigate the chaos and plan a flawless trip. That’s where you come in.
Why I Love Selling Luxury Travel
When I decided to focus on luxury travel, it completely changed my business—and my life.
Here’s why:
It’s profitable. Luxury clients book higher-ticket trips, which means better commissions for you. Instead of competing for dozens of low-budget bookings, you can focus on a smaller group of high-value clients.
It’s creative. Every trip is a chance to design something unique, and that makes the work so much more enjoyable.
It’s relationship-driven. Luxury clients value trust and expertise, which means they come back to you for future trips and refer their friends and family.
And most of all, it’s meaningful. There’s nothing more rewarding than knowing you helped someone create memories they’ll treasure forever.
What Luxury Travel Means to Me
At its core, luxury travel is about going beyond the ordinary. It’s about crafting experiences that feel personal, seamless, and unforgettable.
